Hi Guys ,

This year many of you have appeared for sub-engineer examination -2018 which was conducted by PEB Madhya Pradesh and we sincerely hope that all of you have done your best and fared well.

Based on the data collected of the marks being obtained by students and  comparing the difficulty level of sub-engineer examination -2018 paper with sub-engineer examination -2017 paper and  more previous years paper and detailed analysis of this year examination in each slot.

Now , we have come up with the following marks as the expected cut-off in the respective category.

Based on our analysis, the number of questions and weightage of each subject, TEAM AEC is giving marks to each subject out of 10 , which is based on institute’s curriculum for classroom courses, study material provided by institute and also the toughness level of questions.

 

Civil Engineering

This year Civil Engineering exam was held in three shifts as on 2-sept-2018 in the evening shift, 4-sept-2018 in the morning shift and 4-sept-2018 in the evening shift. According to our team and our expert panel the paper was bit easier compared to last year.

  • Surveying : There were total 7 questions from this subject and all questions were very easy.

  • Transportation : There were total 9 questions from this subject where all questions were of basic level from highway Engineering 1 question from railway Engineering was quite difficult.

AEC SCORE 8.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • Soil : There were total 10 questions from this subject where all questions were conceptual but of very easy level one question from consolidation topic was quite difficult & one numerical from earth pressure Theories was difficult.

AEC SCORE 8 marks out of 10.

 

  • Environment : There were total 12 Questions from this subject out of which 9-10 Questions were very direct to answer. One Question from permissible limit & one question of Abyssinian well was of difficult level as it was a factual data and difficult to guess.

  • Building Material : There were total 12 Questions from this subject out of which 8-9 Questions of easy level one question of glazing, one question from Bricks & one Question from type of sheets were of difficult level.

  • Irrigation : There were total 6 Questions from this subject which were from basic terminologies. One question from depth of scouring was of difficult level.

AEC SCORE 10 marks out of 10.

 

  • Fluid Mechanics : There were total 8 Questions from this subject which were was of difficult level from pump, open channel flow fluids one numerical question from notches.

AEC SCORE 8.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • RCC : There were total 8 Questions from this subject which were generally from codal clause and were of easy level numerical part was also easy.

AEC SCORE 8.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • Steel : There were total 7 question from this subject out of which one numerical was of difficult level rest all questions were from basic formulas & terminologies and of easy level 1 wrong.

AEC SCORE 8.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • SOM : There were total 6 questions from this subject which were basic formula based numerical and basic terminologies.

  • QSC : There were total 7 questions from this subject which were generally of calculation based & unit representation which were of easy level one numerical from brick work was of difficult level.

AEC SCORE 8.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • BDD : There were total 8 Questions from this subject 4 – 5 Questions were of easy level while 2 – 3 Questions which were generally from laws of Building were of difficult level.

AEC SCORE 8 marks out of 10.

 

Note – Expected topper marks in this section will be 85-88 marks out of 100 & (77-82) marks will be a good score for unreserved category.

 

Number of wrong Questions –

 1) Question no. 14 – Coal based thermal power station pollute the atmosphere by adding ?

Answer given by PEB –  includes CO as a pollutant released by coal  based thermal power station

Correct explaination – Carbon monoxide is not released from coal based power station as a pollute to atmosphere.

2) Question no. 46 – As per IS:800-1984 specification, how to calculate the gross diameter of a bolt? (If diameter of the bolt is less than or equal to 25mm.) /

Answer given by PEB – Nominal diameter + 1.5mm

Correct explaination – Nominal diameter + 2mm

3) Question no. 21– Maximum Reinforcement in a beam of width b and depth D should  not be greater than ?

Answer given by PEB – 0.04 bD.

Correct explaination – 0.08 bD.

4) Question no. 44– As per Building Bye Laws 2003, the minimum setback to be left from all sides building for the height above 40m up to 45m is

Answer given by PEB – 1m.

Correct explaination – 12m.

 

                NON-TECHNICAL SECTION

 

  • General knowledge There were total 6 Questions from MP–GK and remaining 6 question were from static GK and current affairs. No question came from history, geography & economics. One question came from polity that was easy.This sub-section was little bit difficult in non-technical section.

AEC SCORE  4.5 marks out of 10.

 

  • General Hindi There were total 14 questions in this section. all topics were divided in equal parts (muhavare, sandhi, samas, one-word substitution) etc. There were total 3-4 questions which were difficult to answer but remaining all were very easy.

AEC SCORE  7 marks out of 10.

 

  • General Computer There were total 14 questions in this section. 12 questions came from MS-office (MS-excel, MS-word) out of which 3-4 questions were difficult to answer, Remaining all were very easy & rest 2 questions came from only input-output devices , networking which were very easy.

AEC SCORE  8 marks out of 10.

  

  • General English There were total 14 questions from this section which consisted of some easy questions from verbs, tenses, adjectives, articles, prepositions, spelling check. The question’s from sentence transformation and spotting the error were of moderate level.

    AEC SCORE  9 marks out of 10.

 

  • General Mathematics There were total 14 questions from this section which consisted of questions from almost every topics. Questions from geometry and algebra were of moderate level and questions from mensuration, probability, coordinate geometry were of easy level. Question from number system were quite confusing. Some questions of general mathematics were also asked in general logical ability section.

   AEC SCORE  10 marks out of 10.

 

  • General logical ability There were total 14 questions from this section which consisted only 5-6 questions from reasoning and all question of reasoning were very easy. Rest questions were of easy level from Time and Work, Profit and loss, Percentage, Time and Distance. Mixture & Alligations, Ratio & Proportion.

   AEC SCORE  10 marks out of 10.

 

  • General ScienceThere were total 14 questions from this section which consisted of 5 questions from Biology part from which the 2 questions of cell biology were of difficult level. 1 question from plant kingdom was also of difficult level. 2 questions from Environmental Pollution & Diseases were of easy level. It also consisted of 5 question’s from physics which were of very easy level from velocity, acceleration, momentum and basic terminologies. It also consisted of 4 question from chemistry in which 2 questions were asked from nuclear reaction which were of moderate level and 1 easy level question from types of reaction was asked.

AEC SCORE 8 marks out of 10.

 

Note – Expected topper marks in this section will be 85-87 marks out of 100 & ( 75-80 ) marks will be a good score for unreserved category.

 

Number of wrong questions –

1) Question no. 11 (General Science) – Ajay wanted to prepare lemon juice for his friend. He first dissolved 50 g of sugar in 150 g of water before adding the lemon extract. What is the concentration of sugar in the solution in terms of its mass percentage?

Answer given by PEB – 33.3% .

Correct Answer  – 25% .

 

1) Question no. 1 (General Hindi ) – Harishankar Parsai, who hailed from Madhya Pradesh, was a famous writer in which branch of Hindi literature?

Answer given by PEB – Poetry.

Correct Answer  – Satire.

  • Surveying : There were total 15 Questions from this subject out of which 8 Questions were from very basic level, 5 Questions were of moderate level where option were confusing, while 2 Question from precise leveling & setting of curve were of difficult level where some factual data was asked which is rarely read.

  • Transportation : There were total 6 Question from this subject out of which 3-4 Questions were very direct and easy but 2 Questions from traffic Engineering were asked from deeper concepts which were relativity hard .

  • Soil Mechanics : There were total 12 Questions from this subject where 7-9 Question were of easy level and Question of earth pressure theories was a bit confusing between the given options.

  • Environment : There were total 14 Questions from this subject out of which 10 – 11 Question were very basic. One question from effect of radiation was of completely different pattern which is generally never asked so it was a difficult Questions.

  • Building material : There were total 16 Questions from this subject out of which 11-13 Questions were of easy level and were basic. One question from hydration of cement, & one Question from minerals and one Question from stairs were of difficult level.

  • Irrigation : There were total 4 Questions from this subject out of which 2 Questions were easy while, Question from hydrology part was of difficult level.

EXPECTED CUT-OFF As vacancies in this year are too less in number as compared to last year. As compared to last year vacancies reduced by 50%. There is no single vacancy in some departments . So Cut – Off may go high this year.

 

  • Topper marks may lie between (165-169) out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for UR category is between (153-158) marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for UR Female is above 137 marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for OBC is above (144 – 149) marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for OBC Female is above 135 marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for SC is between (134-139) marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for SC Female is above 122 marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for ST is above (117-126) marks out of 200.
  • Expected cut-off for ST Female is above 107 marks out of 200.

 

 

Note – This is the expected cut –off which  may vary upto ± 2 marks .Among the three shifts , non – technical section and technical section of 4th September morning shift was little bit difficult compared to other shifts hence , normalization will be in favour of this shift.
